DARNELL, Kenneth Matthew
1/18/2007 - 10/2/2024
Kenneth was a wonderful, sweet boy. Born on January 18, 2007 in Springfield, MO, Kenneth brought so much love and new meaning into the world. Even as an infant, Kenneth had a calm temperament and that quality remained throughout his life. As Kenneth grew into a teenager, you could see the man that he would become -- strong, steadfast, and assured. Kenneth was a gentle soul, unwavering in his patience, and with a real desire to help others. He always took things in stride. He was always humble.
Kenneth was always special to his sister, Belle. She was excited to have another little brother and she was fiercely protective of him as he grew from an infant, into a teenager and into a young man. Although he aged, through Belle's eyes, Kenny will forever remain in her heart as her baby brother. Kenneth's older brother, Max, also held a special place in his heart for his younger brother. As Kenneth grew throughout childhood, Max's interests quickly rubbed off onto Kenneth, and their brotherly bond, though complex, ran very deep. Kenneth made Max an older brother, and Max will hold that title for eternity.
Kenneth's younger brother, John, looked up to and admired Kenneth as a role model and for support. John would try to mimic what he saw Kenneth doing in an attempt to be like him. Even though John would annoy the crap out of his big brother, Kenneth loved him dearly and always made time to make John feel special. Not only was Kenneth a loving son and brother, but he was also a kind and giving friend. Kenneth loved his classmates, loved his JROTC mates, and loved his workmates at Sonic. Every day after school, he would hang out with his friends to talk about life, joke around, and occasionally play football in the school parking lot.
Kenneth was adored by his friends and family. To his friends, he was the best hugger, the best listener, and a true best friend. It was such an endearing quality. Kenneth was someone who was always a pleasure to be around. He was loved by many. To have lost Kenneth is heartbreaking for many -- it has come as such a shock to us all. His life was far too short.
Kenneth's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all those who gave their support, their compassion, and their love throughout this very difficult time. Kenneth would not want us to grieve for too long. Rather, Kenneth would want us all to remember the good times we all shared with him. Kenneth will live on in our hearts forever. His legacy will live on through the organs and tissue he donated.
A public celebration of life service will be held in Springfield, Missouri with the date and time to be determined.
