Judy K. Johnston

Judy K Johnston, 81, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on December 04, 2024, from complications from Parkinsons disease.
Judy is survived by her brother, Kenneth Pleake; her son, Lyle Johnston and his wife, Jamie Johnston; her grandchildren, Chris Dawson and his wife Becky Dawson, Kim Smith, and Kathryn Dawson; her great-grandchildren, Tre Vonte Smith, Sierra Smith, Jordan Smith, and Ben Dawson.
Preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Charles Pleake; her sisters, Shirley Clark, Dorothy Stark, and Patricia Coyle; her brother, Keith Pleake; stepsisters, Margaret Oviatt and Geraldine OBradovich; and her stepbrother, Charles Pleake.
Judy was a wonderful mother and grandmother and all the nieces and nephews loved her. Judy loved animals, especially cats, and was a vegetarian. Judy had a sweet tooth and loved Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Hersey chocolate bars. She loved playing cards, especially with her siblings. She used to spend weekends driving up with her sister Dorothy to her brother Ken and his wife Vais farm to play cards for hours.
Judy retired from Union Pacific as a Derailment Prevention Manager but continued working part-time for two Omaha Attorneys after she retired because she loved working.
Judy was in excellent health until she was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2009. She continued to work until 2014, when the symptoms became problematic. Judy began living in an Independent Living Facility for six months until her symptoms became unmanageable, and then she moved to an Assisted Living Facility.
Judy was willing to try anything to help her situation. When a new product called the Duopa Pump became available, she was the first woman and only the second person in Nebraska to try this pump. This pump worked so well that she could return to an Independent Living Facility.
In April 2016, Judy was contacted by the New Horizons Newspaper so they could do a feature article on her experience with the Duopa Pump.
In 2019, Jamie and Judy decided to create a book of all the information that they had learned about Parkinsons disease. The Parkinsons Effect R & R (Recommendations and Reasons) book was published in November 2022. Her daughter-in-law also has a blog site called parkinsonseffect.com, where she continues to share information about Parkinsons and new research options.
Judy kept several books with her at her Full Care Living Facility and got most of her nurses to read them. She even had Jamie make up some business cards so she could try to make some sales in the facility.
Visitation for Judy will be held 5pm-7pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Celebration of Judy's Life will be 1pm, Wednesday, December 11th, all at Braman Mortuary Millard Chapel. Interment: Voss Mohr Cemetery.
