Koenig was born on a farm to Leander M. Nicholson and Dorothy B. Nicholson on June 16th, 1935 in Ravenna Nebraska. She had 2 brothers; Raymond Nicholson and Francis K. Nicholson and one sister Shirley Campbell. She was married to Lloyd Jr Carruth for 25 years and she was married to Norbert Koenig for many years also. She had endured so much in her life…she lost both brothers and sister…she lost both husbands and she had lost 11 babies besides both parents and grandparents. Our mom, grandma, great-grandma and aunt was a wonderful loving person who loved helping other people including animals as she also would rescue dogs from shelters and give them safe and loving homes…she was outgoing and fun to be around…she was a free spirit who was patient and always had a positive attitude. She was a very strong woman who always held her head up high even when so many things she endured was tragic… Joyce loved being around her daughter, Diana as quite often they would spend quality time together going to the movies and eating out…she also loved taking her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the Husker games every season as she always bought season tickets every year; during the games, she would yell so loud that I often wondered how many neighbors heard her and how far…she also loved playing dominoes with her friends at the VFW club every Saturday evening…she had also enjoyed playing darts every week a few years back. She also volunteered her time at the Fitzgerald Home playing Bingo for the elderly as she did this activity for many years…she also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels…she also loved playing cards (trash & kings corner) and other games with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our mom, grandma and great-grandma also enjoyed family get-togethers such as attending plays and other school programs, graduations and graduation parties, picnics, baby showers, cookouts and many other family activities. She was very giving of her time to ensure everyone else was taken care of. She would also give excellent advice to anyone who would listen to any of her recommendations. She was also a feisty woman who would do anything to protect her family. Joyce also loved being around her church friends too as she had attended Benson Baptist church for many years and then she and her family decided to attend and become members of Sunset Hills Baptist church as she loved listening to the word of God. She was just an amazing person who was loved by everyone who came into contact with her… We love you mom and grandma and you will sincerely be sorely missed! With Love Always: Diana, Trent & Sara, Tracy, Amanda, Alyssa, Jessica, Gage, Haley, Megan, Callie, Junior, Payton, Zachariah, and Clayton.
