Joseph William Hiykel

On Monday, February 22, 2021, Joseph William Hiykel Jr., loving husband, father of five and grandpa of ten, passed away at home at the age of 60. Joe was born on August 2, 1960 in Omaha, NE to Joe and Ardell (Schmader) Hiykel. He received his engineering degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha in 1981. While his degree was in engineering, Joe had a few different careers and found his niche in car sales, specifically with Stan Olsen. On May 24, 1980, he married his first wife Susan (Wageman) Vampola. Together they had 3 children; 2 sons, Joseph William Hiykel III and Joseph John Hiykel; and a daughter, Melissa Gabrielle (Hiykel) Coffin. Although his first marriage ended, they were able to co-parent their children successfully. Joe later found love again in Anna M. E. (Couch) Hiykel. They married on September 22, 2001 and together they raised Lloyd Couch and Heather (Couch) Cartsens. Joe had a passion for fishing and Nebraska football. He could always be heard talking about his fishing trips and catching the “big ones”. Joe is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Hiykel) Coffin and Heather (Couch) Carstens; his sons, Joseph John Hiykel and Lloyd Couch; his wife, Anna; his mother, Ardell Hiykel; his sister, Kristine (Hiykel) Ryan; his brothers, Jeff Hiykel and John Hiykel; and his former wife, Susan. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph William Hiykel Sr; his son; Joseph William Hiykel III; and his brothers, Joseph Jude Hiykel and James Hiykel.
