Burg, John D., 87, Omaha, a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend who always put the Lord first. Born on January 4, 1922, to Dewey and Christie McDonnell Burg at their home in Rock Port, Missouri. Joined his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Survived by his wife of 61 years, (Grace) Eleanor (Monzingo) Burg; two daughters and their spouses: Barbara and Charles Armstrong, Omaha, and Lynne and Matthew Herman, Lincoln; two grandchildren, Christopher Armstrong, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Amy Herman, Lincoln; two sisters and their spouses, Beverly and John Bauermeister, Pawnee City, and Shirley and Marty Erickson, Houston, Texas; cousin Mary Anne Biel, Council Bluffs, IA; and, many relatives and friends. Preceded in death by son, William ‘Bill’ Burg in 2006; sister, Eleanor Biel in 1999. John was a 1941 graduate of Omaha Technical High School and a 1949 graduate of the University of Omaha (now University of Nebraska-Omaha). He enlisted in August 1942 and served in World War II as a Marine Paratrooper/5th Marine Division. Took part in the battle of Guadalcanal and the invasion of Iwo Jima. Awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star and a Gold Star in lieu of a second Purple Heart. John workedat the U.S. Postal Service for 41 years. He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church, Omaha, for 54 years. Also active as a coach and leader in youth programs for church and community, including Midget Football and Keystone Little League. In 1969 he was named and honored as the National Manager of the Year in Little League Baseball. Celebration of John’s life will be Monday, 11:00 AM at Temple Baptist Church (2702 N. 61St St.) Visitation:Sunday, 2-4 PM at Braman Mortuary (72nd St. Chapel) and Monday, beginning at 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at church, prior to the service.
