FAIRES, Joel F., Sr. 8/21/1929 – 12/22/2020 Age 91 years, of Omaha Proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Joel Francis Faires was born August 21, 1929 to Joel Middleton Faires and Esther Maude Noonan in Dubuque, IA. As a young boy he loved his paper route, he enjoyed riding his bike around Omaha and delivering the newspaper. Joel graduated high school in 1948. After high school he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his county from 1950-1954. Joel was stationed in Germany and could talk your ear off sharing stories of his time in service. While stationed in Germany he met the love of his life, Regina. She joined him back home in the USA not long after he was honorably discharged from the Air Force. Regina and Joel were married in the 30th of April 1955. Over the next few years they added four boys, Joel Jr., Michael, Dennis, and Christopher to their family. With the exception of the first 5 years of their marriage, Joel and Regina resided in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1954, he began working at Continental Can in Omaha where he worked as a machinist for 40 years, retiring in 1994. During their lifetime together, Joel and Regina enjoyed traveling to Germany to visit family, see the sites (especially German car museums) and attending Formula One car races. They planned to travel more after his retirement, but sadly Regina passed away in December 1997. Joel continued to live in the house he and Regina called home until moving in with his son, Dennis and daughter-in-law, Crystal. Joel was a quiet, reserved man, he enjoyed going to Mass on Saturday evenings, Husker Football, watching and/or attending Indy Car and Formula One car races. After Regina’s passing Joel was able to make a couple more trips to Germany to visit family, he valued his connection to Germany and loved to visit.
