Joanne Pauline Hutchins was born on September 21, 1945, spending her upbringing in Bloomfield, NJ.She was an only child to Pauline and Kenneth Hutchins.Unfortunately, Joanne spent 4 years of her childhood in bed with rheumatic fever, yet she thankfully recovered without long term complications. At the age of 19, Joanne was a Medical Assistant at an allergy clinic in Newark, NJ.Bob Urban, from Wahoo, NE, was on a job assignment for Western Electric. He became an allergy shot patient at her clinic, whom caught her eye and captured her heart. They quickly became engaged and married. He brought his new bride back to Omaha, NE, where they built a home and had 2 daughters, Sheri and Sunny. Guess what Joanne & Bob's favorite TV show was back then?? (aka Sonny & Cher). Joanne raised her daughters at home, while volunteering a lot of her time and effort as the Christian Education Director for Hope United Presbytarian Church, along with working for Shin's Academy, where she and Sheri achieved their red and black belts, respectively. As her daughters became more independent, Joanne worked as a devoted receptionist for Millard Airport, Denny Vetter, and the Omaha Convention Center and Visitor's Bureau.Through her pilot friends, Joanne enjoyed the adventure of Omaha Soaring (Gliding) Club. On the spiritual side, Joanne was involved with and attended a local UTNE group, where she made many like-minded friends. Joanne was a real “people person” with an enormous and most generous heart. She offered support and help to nearly anyone she crossed paths with. It's admirable that so many folks would call Joanne their best friend. She also adored and cherished the unconditional love of animals, having loved and cared for many furry critters along the way, whether it was her own, a neighbor's, or a stray. After 27 yrs of marriage, Joanne and Bob divorced, but kept a civil and friendly relationship.Joanne spent the last 25 yrs of her life in a relationship with Ron Johnson, from North Omaha. One of the most memorable times of her life was a roadtrip that she took with Ron to Alaska for 6 months, living out of the back of a truck. Now that's an adventurous accomplishment! Joanne was also devoted to researching and learning new skills which involved do-it-yourself projects, sewing, gardening, and healthful living. In the last decade, Joanne was a devoted caretaker of her Mother for 5 years, until her ripe old age of 100.Unfortunately, Joanne never felt her health 'bounce back' after this, and she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer just one year later. Joanne fought cancer during the last 2 yrs of her life, but lost the courageous battle at age 73. There was no lack of a fight, as Joanne was a fiercely independent and determined person. In the end, her daughters kept and cared for her at home, with the loving support of Hospice.Joanne bid farewell to many human & furry friends and family on May 16, 2019, while Heaven gained a precious angel. Joanne's most famed motto's: Treat others as you want to be treated! Actions speaks louder than words! If you can't be good, be careful! ENJOY LIFE, IT'S TOO SHORT NOT TO! No funeral or service was desired by Joanne after her passing, but memorials or donations are welcomed to the Nebraska Humane Society, which was near and dear to her heart.
