We are broken at heart to announce the passing of our dear son and brother, Jesse Clyde Bent. Jesse was born to Joseph and Cindy Bent on June 22nd, 1980 and fell asleep in death on August 15th 2024. He is survived by his parents, his sister Angela Eubanks and her husband Jimmie Eubanks. His Aunts Pamela McCoy, Laura Manzer, Corina Long, Kim Hammond, Brenda Kostal, Fran Zimmer and his Uncle LeRoy Zimmer and their spouses. His special Aunt Linda and Uncle Walt and brother Glynn Zimmer as well as many other cherished cousins, family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his brother Jay Bent, Grandmas Pat Smith and Joyce Zimmer, Grandfathers Robert Bent and Donald Zimmer. His Aunt Donna Whitaker, Uncles Bob Bent and John Zimmer. Please forgive us if we left anyone out as he would never want that.
Jesse grew up in north Omaha Nebraska and attended Miller Park, Sherman, McMillan and Omaha North High. As a boy Jesse loved to play in the park across from the home where he grew up. He especially loved sports. Baseball, football and basketball were his favorites. He even had a basketball rim where he practiced his pirouette. Jesse was very competitive. As a kid, his team, the KC chiefs never could seem to get very far. He would get upset and kick his KC jersey around. So of course, these last few years he’s enjoyed watching the Chiefs championship games with his dad. Just like most siblings, Jesse and Angie would blame things on each other, but they tended to blame Jay the most!! Dad and Mom were always easy on Jay they reasoned. He was also non-verbal so what was he gonna say?
Jesse may have been the youngest, but he was a big brother too. He had a special bond with his older brother Jay and would take charge when Jay didn’t want to do what he was supposed to do. Like getting on that school bus! Jesse would pick Jay up and throw him on his shoulder and put Jay on that bus! Once on the bus, Jay was just fine. Jesse loved to play pool and entertain his friends. He was such a loyal friend. If his friends needed him for anything, he did his best to be there in any way he could. That was a constant for Jesse. Jesse thought he was a comedian with a quirky sense of humor. There were many times he made a lot of jokes that weren’t really that funny. But we all knew he just wanted to make people laugh and see them smile and that just made us love him more. We must admit though, the last year he seemed to be more witty than ever.
Because of his struggles with mental health and addictions he couldn’t hold on to jobs for long. There was a time when he worked at Hy-Vee for almost 2 years. He took great pride in that accomplishment. The Omaha World Herald even wrote an article that shared how that job helped him during that time. Jesse enjoyed fishing but only if the fish were biting. He got bored easily and if they weren’t biting, he wasn’t trying to wait around. Though sometimes he would just sit and chill and watch. He would go to spend time with his dad and brother Glynn.
Jesse was extremely sentimental. When he was working at HyVee he bought his brother Jimmie a commercial grade hot dog machine because he knew how much Jimmie loves hot dogs. He would buy flowers for his mom and sister. Sometimes to make them feel better and sometimes for no reason at all. He said, “all girl love flowers”. We can’t speak for all girls, but we definitely do. We will always have an extra place in our hearts for flowers. Jesse our treasured flower.
