Jerald "Jerry" Allen Moss
October 20, 1947 ~ February 15, 2025
Jerald (“Jerry”) Allen Moss, 77, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 20, 1947, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Ada and George Moss, Jerry grew up in Henry, SD, and graduated from Henry High School with the Class of 1965. He married Cheryl Stoltenburg on June 24, 1972.
A lifelong learner, Jerry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Inhalation Therapy from Ottawa University before furthering his education with a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. His dedication to the respiratory therapy field led him to a fulfilling career as a respected educator.
In February 1985, Jerry joined Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska, where he became a beloved faculty member. Over the years, he poured his heart into teaching and mentoring students, eventually serving as the Director of Respiratory Care until his retirement in August 2020. His passion for education was evident in the countless lives he impacted. Known for his humor, he often told students, “If you don’t do it right, I’ll have your name tattooed on my chest so they know not to have you care for me.” Jerry found joy in making learning engaging and was deeply committed to the success of his students.
Even after retiring, his dedication to the medical community never wavered. He spent his later years volunteering at Methodist Hospital, where he continued to use his knowledge while providing support and comfort to patients’ loved ones in the surgical waiting area.
Beyond his professional and volunteer life, Jerry had many traits that made him so special. His interests included needlework, reading, running a successful ebay business, spoiling Pepper (his beloved dog), researching family history, keeping the cable company from overcharging and he made a mean potato salad. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren and truly loved connecting with his adult children (who will miss their dad waving to them from the front step with tears in his eyes every time they drove out of his driveway). Jerry’s kind, gentle, determined spirit will endure in the lives of his family. Those who loved him may find peace in the knowledge that he is celebrating with the angels. In the days preceding his surgery, Jerry encouraged his kids to share in his trust that “a higher power than me is in control here.” God was ready to claim his son and led him home.
Jerry is lovingly remembered by his former spouse, Cheryl (Clyde) King; his children, Sarah (Cory) Wood of Eagan, MN; David (Jennifer) Moss of Plattsmouth, NE; and Micah Moss of Omaha, NE; as well as his 10 cherished grandchildren: Brooklyn, Carter, Rachel, Kaitlynn, Alex, Madison, TJ, Zaleyia, Zion, and Jaxson, along with his great-grandchild, Koa. As well as, many long time friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Fredrick Moss, Robert (“Bob”) Moss, Edith Berger, Richard (“Dick”) Moss, Harold Moss, Lewis (“Butch”) Moss, and Ruth McFarland.
