Jerald Dean Jacobson

December 22, 1928 — September 25, 2022

Jacobson, Jerald D. "Jerry"
12/22/1928 - 9/25/2022

Jerry D Jacobson was the son of Elmer and Lillie (Reiland) Jacobson. Their sixth child, he was preceded in death by his sister Helen (Delozier) Jacobson and brothers, Harold, Clifford, Raymond and Cecil. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma (Claussen) Jacobson, daughter Sandy Jacobson and son Marty Jacobson.

Jerry graduated from Randolph High School, was an exemplary student, and captain of the championship football team. He went to the University of Nebraska and studied Electrical Engineering. He worked for OPPD until his retirement in 1990 where he was the manager of Substation Engineering.

He met the love of his life, Norma Jean Claussen, in February of 1953 and they were married September 14th of that same year. They are life long Nebraska Football fans and had season tickets for decades and enjoyed following the team for road games. They even went to an Orange Bowl with dear friends Bernie and Carol Plummer. Family vacations every summer was a highlight and infused a love of travel in Sandy. They spent 3 months in Korea after Jerry retired with Norma’s brother Fred and his wife Sunny. They were able to see the Great Wall in China, Xian where they saw the Terra-cotta warriors and Hong Kong. This is when Jerry really developed his golf game and continued to play in multiple leagues for many years. He even got a Hole in One at Miracle Hills Golf Course in Omaha. They would travel together taking driving trips and visiting Fred and Sunny in Florida each year. Dad was active in his church, FaithWestwood UMC and served in many leadership capacities. He was instrumental in developing The Helping Hand fund to help those in need.

He also loved bowling and Sandy’s fondest dad/daughter time while in grade school is going to bowl with Dad on a Friday night OPPD league and watching the team compete.
He also was an active member of the Shrine and he and Norma were part of the Hospital Float Group. Yes, for many years he drove a car in all the Parades. Since his birthday, December 22nd, was so close to Christmas, Norma made sure there was a birthday party with family and friends as well as Christmas celebration for over 50 years. Don’t you dare bring a birthday gift wrapped in Christmas paper!

Jerry lived a full life and was loved by anyone who knew him. He was generous and loved to smile and laugh. The world was blessed with his presence.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Norma; daughter Sandy Jacobson; son Marty Jacobson; many other relatives and friends.
