Jeffrey Ross Detter was born on his father’s birthday, April 16, 1957 in Hastings, Nebraska. He is the first-born son of Larry L. Detter and Joyce Marie (Ross) Detter. He has one younger brother, David Jon Detter, who took care of Jeff and his mother, the last 5 years of their lives. Jeff’s mother passed away on December 21, 2022.
He loved to play sports in school and lettered in varsity football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Hastings High School in May of 1975 and attended Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. He graduated with a double major in Physics and Chemistry with a minor in mathematics in June of 1981.
His parents divorced when he was a freshman in High School and they both remarried. His father, Larry, married Bonnie (Hinrichs) Kissinger and his mother, Joyce, married Byron (Bob) Orville Brown. After graduating, he accepted a position with Creighton University Medical Center as a Lab Technician in the Osteoporosis Research Unit under Dr. John Christopher Gallagher. He worked there for 29 years as he continued to work his way up to being the Network and Computer Manager of the Osteoporosis Research Unit.
On June 21, 1986 he was married to Elizabeth (Betsy) Joy Niemeyer at Calvary Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He enjoyed cats and collecting antiques. They bought a house at 4102 California Street in Omaha, Nebraska and raised their family consisting of a daughter, Abigail Kathryn on January 9, 1981 (age 32), and a son Robin Nathaniel born on Jeffrey’s 35th birthday, April 16, 1992, (age 30). He loved his family and enjoyed working outside and doing many needed repairs to their home, including an updated kitchen and bathroom. He loved baseball with his son and coached for many years at the Hillside Baseball League. He is the Grandfather of Jayden Ross Detter, age 7, Kolton William Detter, age 5, Isaac Daniel Stevens, deceased at the age of 10 months, Torri Rae, age 2, Alexander William Stevens, age 2, and Levi Linkin Detter, age 1.
After a heart attack in December of 2015, he moved in with his mother. He had a stroke in February of 2018 and his brother, David, moved up from Texas to take care of Jeff and his mother for the last 5 years. He died of possible heart failure in his recliner on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
