Janet L. Peters

Janet Lee (Smith) Peters (10/29/1951 – 1/14/2025) was born in Fremont Nebraska October 29, 1951 to Leander Smith and Mildred Colone. The family resided in Council Bluffs, IA where Janet attended Rue Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High, and Thomas Jefferson High School. She attended Iowa State University majoring in Art. She passed away January 14, 2025, age 73 due to complications from Parkinsons’ syndrome. Janet was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Tim Peters (Omaha), sisters Sandra (Frank) Howe (Concord, CA), Kim Smith (Joni Cleveland) of Carter Lake, IA, and sisters-in-law Geri-Ann DeBolt (Ashland, NE) and Mary (Warren) Tiarks (Des Moines, IA). Janet also has five dogs to greet her in Heaven; Socrates, Wolfgang, Rascal, Spike and Caesar. Janet and Tim spent 15 years in Northwest Kansas, where Janet worked and managed a local grocery store. She also worked at JC Penney and Younkers department stores in Omaha, retiring in 2016. She enjoyed sewing and other needlecrafts, reading, dining out, and attending live music performances. Janet was able to travel to many locations in the U.S. (Hawaii was a favorite) as well as Europe and Mexico. Braman Mortuary (1702 N. 72nd St., Omaha) is handling the arrangements. There will be a visitation followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery (Omaha). The family is thankful for the kindness, compassion and dignity provided by the staff of Bickford Assisted Living and Hillcrest Hospice. Memorials can be made to the charity of choice; Parkinsons support organizations, Heart and Cancer charities and of course animal shelters.
