Janet Kay (Philippi) Bennett, 83 of Omaha, NE passed away on November 8, 2023. She was born on June 16,1940 to Miley and Elsie Philippi. She was raised in Havelock with her siblings in a loving family.

Janet was a proud member of the Lincoln Northeast High School class of 1958. She was a majorette in the marching band and played clarinet in her high school orchestra and pep band.

She met Dion in the summer of 1957 and they were married on January 9,1960. Later that year, they welcomed their first son Kevin. Their son Todd was born in 1962. The family moved from Lincoln to Omaha in 1964 where they worked side by side for King’s Food Host until 1973. It was then that they joined the partners at Grandmother’s Restaurant.

Janet retired from Grandmother’s in 1986, but returned to work alongside Dion when he began opening several Don & Millie’s restaurants in Omaha, Lincoln and Fremont. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, and may have visited a casino or two in her day. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.

Janet is preceded in death by her infant grandson Glenn Patrick Bennett, her parents Miley and Elsie Philippi, brothers Edward and Albert Philippi, sister Connie and brother-in-law Kenneth Byers, brother-in-law Paul Bateman and sister-in-law Thelma Philippi. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dion of Omaha; son Kevin and his wife Keri of Kearney; son Todd of Omaha; granddaughter Cristen Bennett of Lincoln; sister Beverly Bateman of Lincoln and many other relatives and friends.

CELEBRATION OF JANET’S LIFE: Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 11:00 am, with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service, at FaithWestwood United Methodist Church, 4814 Oaks Lane, Omaha, NE. A reception will be held immediately following at the church. The family asks those who attend her Celebration of Life service to please dress casually.

INURNMENT: Voss Mohr Cemetery at a later date

In lieu of flowers, memorials given to the family will be used in Janet’s memory at a later date.
