James M. Wood "Jim"

February 26, 1935 — April 13, 2018

Wood, James Martin February 26, 1935 - April 13, 2018 Jim, beloved husband, father and grandfather, was born in Ogden, Utah, and raised in Salt Lake City. He earned a Ph.D. in Speech Pathology at the University of Utah in 1966. He taught briefly there as well as at Eastern Michigan University before coming to the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he was a professor for 29 years, retiring in 1997. Jim was an avid skier and fly fisherman. Many other interests included golf, hunting, jewelry-making, fly rod building, and a love of animals, especially horses and golden retrievers. Preceding him in death were his parents, Francis C. and Atha D. (Martin) Wood; two sisters, Roma Barber Stabile and L. Frances Done; a brother, William D. Wood; and a granddaughter, Amanda L. Wood. Left to lovingly remember Jim are the love of his life, his wife of 40 years, Joye McLeod; three children, Christian Wood (Julie) of Oklahoma, Spencer Wood of Utah, and Stacey Wood (Dave Farmer) of Utah; nine grandchildren, Robert Wood (Marie) of Texas; Katrina Wood Taylor (Klancy) of Nevada; Logan Wood (Jamie), Hunter Wood, Jenica Wood, Zane Wood of Oklahoma; Nathaniel Wood (Chantel), Trevor Wood (Dalliam), Colton Farmer-Wood of Utah; eight great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and cherished friends. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Saturday, April 21, at 2pm at the mortuary, with a reception to follow. VISITATION at 1pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Smile Train, which provides cleft palate repair surgery for children around the world, PO Box 96231, Washington DC 20077.
