James Ira Murray (Jim), age 72, of Omaha, NE passed away at Keystone Ridge Post Acute Nursing and Rehabilitation on July 12, 2023, where he had been on Hospice. Jim was born on January 27, 1951 in Topeka, KS, to his parents, Vera Gentry Murray and Robert S. Murray. They preceded Jim in death.
Jim graduated from Washburn Rural High School and from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He attended Control Data Institute in St. Louis, MO. He worked as a Field Engineer in Kansas City. Jim attended Johnson County Community College and earned certification as a Respiratory Therapist. He worked as a chemist for a food preservative company before retiring and moving to Omaha, NE.
He enjoyed going out to eat; telling a joke or two; liked taking photos and enjoyed touring “Nebraska Passport” sites. Jim loved anything computer or airplane related. He was a recreational pilot and flew a Cessna 172.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Janice Marie Laidler Murray (Jan). No children from this union. He is survived by a sister, Marilyn (Richard) Post of Topeka; a brother, Richard (Elizabeth) Murray of Topeka; a sister-in-law, Linda Murray of Oskaloosa (brother, William, preceded Jim in death); and a sister, Gale Kresge (Jim) of Topeka, KS; brother in law, Mark (Carol) Lader of Belton, TX; as well as loved nieces and nephews.
Plans are for Jim to be cremated. A gathering of family and friends planned at Braman Mortuary, 6505 S. 144th Street; Omaha, NE on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 2pm to 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CHI Hospice or Keystone Ridge.
