McCarthy Sons: Austin and Jase McCarthy Daughter: Brieanna McCarthy Sister: Melissa Caruso (Joe) Staff Sergeant James McCarthy retires after spending the majority of his 10 year career as an Open Skies Dedicated Crew Chief, 55th AMXS, Offutt AFB, NE. Sergeant McCarthy was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and raised in Milton Florida. He graduated from Milton High School in June 2001. James married Lorey in 2004 and they have two children, Brieanna and Jase McCarthy. Sergeant McCarthy enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 2005 where he went on to complete Aerospace Maintenance technical training at Sheppard AFB, TX in January of 2006. He was then assigned to the 55th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Offutt AFB, NE where he was awarded an early Below-The-Zone Promotion to Senior Airman. Sergeant McCarthy served from January 2006 to March 2014 as an Aerospace Maintenance Apprentice, Journeyman, and Craftsman en route to becoming an Assistant Dedicated Crew Chief and finally a dedicated Crew Chief. In March of 2014 Sergeant McCarthy was selected to be an Aerospace Maintenance Instructor for the Maintenance Training Flight, 55th Maintenance Group at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. While assigned to the 55th AMXS, SSgt McCarthy deployed in support of multiple missions and operation to include the Open Skies Treaty Verification, Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, Operation TOMODACHI, and Operation IRAQ & ENDURING FREEDOM. His military awards and decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award with seven oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with gold border, Air Force Longevity Service with 2 oak leaf clusters, USAF NCO PME graduate ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Training Ribbon. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 12:00 PM Wednesday, October 19 with visitation beginning at 10:00AM. Interment at Omaha National Cemetery Memorials may be made to the family.
