James G. "Jim" Bowers

November 4, 1949 — April 11, 2022

BOWERS, James G., Jr. 11/4/1949 - 4/11/2022 James G Bowers Jr. (Jim/Conkey) 72 years of age lost his long battle with cancer on April 11th, 2022 in the comfort of his home. Jim was born in West Chester, PA on Nov 4th, 1949, Jim was the oldest of 4 children and grew up in the county of Oxford, PA. Jim was always around the family growing up doing activities like fishing, hunting, playing with his cousins and siblings, going swimming under the bridge in the pond down from their house. But also being pranked by grandma as this was one of her favorite pastimes. As a family they also owned and ran mushroom houses. Jim attended Oxford High School where he played soccer and ran track, he graduated from high school in 1967. After graduating school Jim started working for Herr's, a potato chip company before deciding to join the military (Navy) in November of 1968. After getting out of the navy Jim made his move to Omaha, Ne. Starting in Omaha Jim took the firefighters exam and passed, but ultimately chose a different path working as a meter reader for OPPD. Jim was promoted to customer relations and started working in Louisville, Ne. With the promotion he moved out to Springfield, Ne in 1980. Jim would later be transferred to the Papillion office for OPPD after 32 years with the company Jim retired in 2007. He was very active in the community where he played coed soccer and softball. He was asked to coach soccer for the boys and since then he fell in love with coaching. He transitioned to coaching girls in soccer, basketball, and softball. What made coaching more exciting was when he could coach his own daughters (Marjina, Maya) and granddaughters (Priyanka, Peliah). It was his life, his passion, and dedication to make a difference in all the kids' lives. He was also a member of the American Legion and a contributor to different organizations in the Springfield Community. Jim met Lisza with the luck of the drawl as you would say. Slowly they formed a relationship where they knew they were meant for each other. If not, he was meant to be Marjina’s dad. Marjina “finally” asked Jim to be her father and finalized the adoption on June 27th, 1995, where she officially became a Bowers! On Nov 5th, 1988 both of them said their “ I do’s” to each other and have been happily married for 33 years. Nov 23rd, 1989 came a beautiful bundle of joy Maya Lyn Bowers. She added to the unconditional love he had for both of his girls. When his grand daughters made their grand entrances into the world (Priyanka, Peliah, Phoenix). This unfortunately pushed mom to last place because his grand babies and daughters were his everything! Through the many years of coaching and creating great friendships he loved to cook, and bring joy to everyone through his food. Preceded in death by mother Kathryn A McClain, stepfather Allan McClain, father James G Bowers Sr, sister Evalyn A Bowers. Survived by wife Lisza A Bowers, brothers Gary Bowers, Dennis (Sharon) Bowers, niece Kimberly (Marlon) McGraw, great nephew Marlon McGraw Jr, daughters Marjina (Joseph) Smith, Maya (Taylor) Wittmaack, grand daughters Priyanka A Bowers, Peilah L Bowers, Phoenix E Smith.
