Ida June Proplesch, 86, was born on Friday, May 28th, 1934 to Gustav Edward Proplesch and Maude Loyce (Johnson) Proplesch. Ida was the eighth of twelve children in a large, blended family. They grew up in their family home on Blondo Street in Omaha, Nebraska.Growing up through the Depression, times were difficult, but the family made do by having a large vegetable garden, fruit trees and raising chickens to help feed them. To earn spending money, each teen worked part-time. Ida spoke about her childhood with great pride, fond memories, joy, and love. Ida was a bright student, skipping a grade and graduating from Benson High School in 1951.Instead of marrying and starting a family, Ida joined the workforce and had a successful 18-year career at Mutual of Omaha, where she became the first woman security guard. Ida continued working at Mutual after she married and started a family.Later as Sam’s career required, the family moved often, yet Ida found work in each new town.Ida was proud to have had over 58 jobs throughout her life. Ida met her best friend and life partner, Samuel, in 1957 on a blind date.They lived in many places together including Boulder, Colorado, Mt. Shasta, California; Omaha, Nebraska; Blair, Nebraska: Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; Millard, Nebraska; Houston, Texas; Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Liberty Hill, Texas.Their adventures include raising three successful children, pampering eight grandchildren, traveling the United States, hand building a custom home, traveling Europe, caring for their farm, and managing multiple rental properties. Ida and Sam married on October 1st, 1965 in Weed, California and lived in Mt. Shasta.In September 1966, Regina Beth was born.Soon after, the proud parents returned to Omaha where (Samuel) Jesse II was born in 1968 and Danyll Christina was born in 1971.Ida’s family was the most important part of her life. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother, caring for each grandchild after they were born. Ida cheered on, volunteered for, and supported Sam, children, and grandchildren in their interests in sports, education, music, and the outdoors. Ida had many personal interests.She loved her gardens.She appreciated the simple pleasure of a vine-ripened tomato or an early Jonquil.Ida travelled to Europe, Mexico, Canada and even went to Cuba before the 1963 travel restrictions.Ida enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels and identifying a rare bird to the feeder. She also loved planning, cooking, eating, and sharing food. She made Christmas cookie trays annually for her neighbors. Ida won awards at the County Fair for her canning and food entries. Ida also followed the cycle of the moon and celestial events.She reveled in a Full Moon, Blood Moon, or Blue Moon, calling, or texting her children to share it with them saying, “I see the moon.”Ida also enjoyed watching horse races like the Kentucky Derby and baseball games like the World Series with family and friends. Ida enthusiastically followed politics and attended political rallies. Ida had many collections including elephant and owl statuettes, commemorative quarters, bells, and other items.Ida loved to keep up with the latest fashion trends in clothing, jewelry, and hairstyles. Ida cherished and spoiled her many miniature schnauzers. Ida is preceded in death by her parents Maude and Gustav Proplesch, half-sisters Betty, Margie and Thelma, half-brothers Edward, Walter and Howard, sister Norma Jeanne and brothers Frank and Bobby. Ida leaves behind her beloved husband, Samuel Truax; daughter, Regina Moss and son-in-law Douglas, granddaughter Hannah and grandsons Samuel and Drew; son (Samuel) Jesse Truax II and daughter-in-law Lisa, granddaughters Jessika and Sofia; daughter Danyll Guinn and son-in law Mitch, granddaughter Piper and grandsons Barrett and Gibbson; sisters Mary Jane Devaney and Sherry Thiebauth. Ida was a two-time breast cancer survivor and survivor of other serious health conditions.Ida passed away peacefully on Christmas morning.She will be laid to rest at the Omaha National Cemetery.
