Herman Jacob Bauman

October 25, 1935 — December 9, 2013

Herman Jacob Bauman was born on October 25, 1935 to Alberta Harriet Brazau Bauman and Orville Guy Bauman in Falls City, Nebraska. He attended and graduated from Falls City High School with full academic honors in 1953. He received a full scholarship to Peru State College, which he chose to give away to another student whom he felt wouldn’t have the opportunity to attend further education without it. He was blessed by the birth of his younger sister, Betty Jo Bauman Brzon, his only sibling, but enjoyed growing up surrounded by cousins and friends. Herman fell in love with “the young girl across the street,” literally “Wilson Street,” his life-long love and soul mate, Wilma Judith Wing. He made her his bride on Sunday, May 29, 1960 in Falls City, Nebraska at the First Christian Church. Their faithful love produced one daughter, Jennie Lynn in 1969, after patiently waiting on the Lord’s perfect timing. A devote soldier and strong believer in serving his country, Herman served the United States in the Army, at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and in the Nebraska Army National Guard. His deepest devotion was to his first love, and his number one goal in life was to serve others and share the gospel of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with whom he has now met face to face and with whom he will be spending his first Christmas. From the tiniest to the wisest, Herman loved people. Whether serving in the nursery with wife Judy, teaching Sunday school, driving a cart around Walmart greeting everyone with a big smile, attending “Kingsmen,” “Pep club,” their church fellowship 5x5 group, cleaning the church building, being “security man” at the ladies’ craft nights, preparing and delivering food for the Omaha Street School, delivering copies of God’s word with his Gideon brothers to soldiers being deployed or school children, or serving as an Elder wherever he was living, he was the epitomy of the two greatest commandments, to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love one another. While always taking the time to help others, he also was a hard-working Missouri Pacific Railroader, providing for and moving around the country with faithful wife Judy multiple times before his company merged with Union Pacific Railroad which brought them back home to God’s country—Nebraska. It was during that time, Herman received the one gift he had always wanted—a son! His daughter Jennie was married in Omaha, Nebraska in the May of 1993 to her best friend, Curtis Lee Cuozzo. He loved and was very proud of his son, and experienced the greatest joy in his life when he became the Grandpa of Stephen Curtis in 1994, Branden Lee in 1995, and Jessie Lynn in 1999, three of the blessings resulting from the love of his union with Judy. His love for the Lord’s “little ones” did not end there….that giant smile would light up his face as he was greeted by precious hugs and smiles from the youngest sheep in his Eldership flock. He knew each one by name, and would consider it all joy to spend time talking with each and every one. Herman lived life to it’s fullest, serving others and sharing Jesus’ love until Monday, December 9th, 2013, when his Lord and Savior called him home, receiving his ultimate “promotion” very unexpectedly to his family and friends, but within His savior’s perfect love, timing, and mercy. He is now in his balcony surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 12:1), being greeted and surrounded by loved ones, but most importantly, seeing Jesus face to face. His greatest desire was to be alive on earth at the return of Jesus to catch up his church in the air (I Thes. 4:17), but God took him home in his perfect timing at 7:34 pm on Monday, December 9th at Bergan Mercy Medical Center, after being transported by EMS after suffering an Arterial Fiberlation, and tirelessly being lovingly treated by the professional and compassionate staff. Herman was preceeded in promotion to Heaven by his parents Orville Guy and Alberta Bauman, his parents in law Ted and Wilma Brown Wing, two brother in laws, a niece, several dear friends and two grandchildren, Baby Cuozzo on July 25, 1993 and Micah Aiden Cuozzo on November 15, 1996. Herman is survived in this temporary life by his loving and devoted wife and caregiver, Judy, after celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 29th, 2013. He will be missed terribly by his daughter Jennie, son Curt and three grandchildren, Stephen Curtis, Branden Lee, and Jessie Lynn Cuozzo, all of Raleigh, North Carolina. He also leaves behind his sister and brother in law, Betty and Sam Brzon of Falls City, Nebraska, six brothers and sisters in law and their spouses, many nieces and nephews and countless brothers and sisters in Christ. The family of Herman Jacob Bauman invites you to join them in a celebration of his life with a time of visitation on Monday, December 16 beginning at 9:30 am, followed by his funeral at 11:00 am at Kingsway Christian Church, 1109 S. 139th Street in Omaha, Nebraska. A meal for family and friends will follow the service. Friends and family are also invited and encouraged to gather at Steele Cemetery in Falls City, Nebraska for a graveside service with full military honors on Tuesday, December 17th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to remember and celebrate Herman’s life by donating to the Gideon’s Bible ministry. Herman loved to read God’s word each and every day, spending time in prayer with his Lord and Savior, and the only thing that would give him more joy was sharing his faith and hope with others. If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please study God’s word and speak with someone about accepting Jesus and being baptized and living in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That’s where you will see Herman Jacob Bauman again. His ultimate goal in life was to see others come to Him, and to be prepared to live out his favorite scripture from the book of John, chapter 14, verses 1-3: “Let not your hearts be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” The family of Herman Jacob Bauman invites you to join them in a celebration of his life with a time of visitation on Monday, December 16 beginning at 9:30 am, followed by his funeral at 11:00 am at Kingsway Christian Church, 1109 S. 139th Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
