Harry H. Hoke April 26, 1937 – January 10, 2025
Harry H. Hoke, 87, affectionately known as “Cuddles,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, on Friday, January 10, 2025, after a long and beautiful life.
Harry was born on April 26, 1937, in Forsyth, Montana, and was raised on the Peaceful Family Ranch, now part of the Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park. He was the son of Earl and Agnes Hoke, true ranchers who instilled in him values of hard work, resilience, and a love for life. Earl, a saddle bronc rider and trainer, and Agnes, a skilled trick and bronc rider, gave Harry a unique upbringing that shaped his remarkable abilities. Harry could master any task he set his mind to, always sharing his wisdom with patience and persistence.
After graduating from high school in Plevna, Montana, Harry proudly served in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Johanna, through a close friend. From the moment he saw her, Harry knew she was “the one.”
The couple married on July 1st, 1961 and began their life together in Plevna, MT. They later moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where Harry began his long career with Northwestern Bell. Over the years, his work took them to various locations, including Des Moines, Iowa, and eventually Omaha, Nebraska, where Harry retired early in his 50s to enjoy a well-earned life of travel and leisure.
Known for his friendly nature and boundless kindness, Harry never met a stranger. He had a gift for connecting with people, turning casual encounters into lifelong friendships. His passions included tinkering with mechanical projects and, most notably, metal detecting. Harry loved searching for treasures both on land and in water, often going to great lengths to return lost items to their rightful owners. As president of a local metal detecting club, he built a cherished community of like-minded friends who became like family.
Among Harry’s many accomplishments, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Johanna, his wife of 64 years, and a loving father to Sherri, James, Connie, and Mikel. Together, he and Johanna traveled the world, with Hawaii and South Padre Island holding special places in their hearts.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Johanna; his children, Sherri Hoke, James (Mia) Hoke, Connie Siddens, and Mikel Hoke; his grandchildren, Meghan (Luke) Cavanaugh, Kristina Hoke, Nicolas Campbell, Troy Hoke, James Hoke, and Nick (Emily) Siddens; and numerous great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a large, loving extended family and countless friends who adored him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Agnes Hoke; grandparents, Harry H. and Beulah Hoke Sr.; his brother, Robert (Helen) Hoke; his daughter, Mary; his son in law, Jeffrey Siddens; and many dear friends who welcomed him into eternal rest.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, condolences, and support during this time.
At Johanna’s request, a private family service will be held at Braman Mortuary in Omaha, with Harry laid to rest with military honors at the Omaha National Cemetery.
Harry’s legacy of love, kindness, and adventure will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
