MALM, Gloria “Jean” 7/18/1928 – 8/23/2018 Age 90 years of Omaha Preceded in death by her Husband Raymond R. Malm, Parents Vernon and Ione Smith, Sister Shirley Therkildsen.Survived by Daughters and Son-in-laws Robin and Dave Young, Sandie and Steve Sturch all of Bennington, Two brothers Gordon and Bob of Davenport, IA., Grandson Travis Young, Step-Grandchildren Jennifer and David Sturch, many Nieces, nephews and loving friends. She was born in Omaha, NE on July 18, 1928, the youngest of four children and raised in the Florence area.She was often asked how she got the name Gloria Jean, and she would reply with.Being the fourth child born in a very short time her Dad said, “Glory this be the last”, and she was.She attended North High School, but left school to work for the “War Effort”.She built detonators for bombs at a small plant in downtown Omaha.During this time, she met Ray Malm who soon went off to war.They got engaged under the 10th Street viaduct in Omaha before his leaving.Upon his return the got married on June 8, 1947 at Augustana Lutheran Church.It was such a big affair the church burnt down the next day.They built there home by themselves on the weekends at 90th Fort where they were expecting their first child or often know as #1 and born July 1957, Robin Rae.Number 2 came along in April 1959, known as Sandra Lyn.Her family completed they went on to enjoy a wonderful life with family, relatives and friends alike.She was active thru the years in Shrine Motor “B” patrol with Ray, attending and supporting various school functions, camping, traveling, bowling, golfing, a Lifetime member of VFW #2503 Ladies Auxiliary, and Member of the VFW “Ladies of the Afternoon” sewing group.She was a wonderful wife, Mother (to many kids), Grandmother and friend to everyone.Her smile was contagious and her love everlasting.She will be missed by all she touched and loved by many more. We will celebrate her life at a later date (probably on a Husker game day, wear the Big Red Proudly that day as she would).Notification will be in the paper with the date, time and location.
