Georgia Ella Mae Lund (Georgea) was born October 19, 1925 to George E. and Hattie Schaeffer in Omaha, NE. She grew up in Omaha, with sisters, Pearl Hubbard and Delphine McHugh, and brother, Duane Patterson. She also had a stepsister, Helen Brace. After graduating from North High School, she spent time working at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. Returning to Omaha, she managed the Nine Cent Cleaners on 13th Street. Georgia married John Lund on October 18, 1947, and staying in Omaha, they raised 5 children: Gene, Patrick, Mary, Carol and John. During this time, they enjoyed family time by Camping (particularly at Two Rivers) in a Volkswagon Bus. Georgia, the girls and the baby slept in the bus, while John and the older boys slept on picnic tables. Georgia loved fishing and eating “fishy” fish! Square Dancing with the Bonnets and Boots Square Dance Club, along with family members was also something she enjoyed. After John retired, they moved to Apache Junction, AZ where they were caregivers for Pearl. They became the managers of the Happy Hollow Trailer Park, where Georgia collected rent, and cooked for several of the residents. She enjoyed having family visit and loved to hike the Superstition Mountain. She also was an assistant at the church, helping the Pastor get things ready for Sunday’s service. When John’s health started to fail, they moved back to Omaha to be closer to family. Georgia had a beautiful smile and was loved by many. She will be missed.
