Frederick Jerome Hanna

Frederick Jerome Hanna, 91, Omaha, NE, passed away April 9, 2024 at Wel-Life Assisted Living in Papillion, Nebraska.

Services will be held Thursday, April 25 at 2:30 p.m. at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd., Omaha, NE 68138. Following the graveside service, please join us for a Celebration of Life at the American Legion Post 374, 13913 S Plaza, Omaha, NE

Fred was born January 21, 1933, to Fred and Floy (Maltby) Hanna. He grew up in Lisbon, North Dakota and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1951. Following High School, he joined the North Dakota Army National Guard as part of the 294th Army Band, while also attending college at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, pursuing a degree in Business Administration, and was also a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Two years into his college courses, Fred was activated to Army active-duty service and assigned to Headquarters, 11th Field Artillery Battalion. After specialized training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fred was deployed to Korea for two years. Upon returning home, he completed his degree from North Dakota State Teachers College in Valley City, ND with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

He is a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Post 8334 and the American Legion, Millard Post 374.

After graduation from college, Fred became a schoolteacher before transitioning to a career as an insurance adjuster. He began his career at General Adjustment Bureau, Inc. (GAB) and retired from Alexander & Alexander Inc. as the Assistant Vice President.

Fred had a passion for the river, boating, his friends and Scotch. He loved his family and enjoyed hosting family reunions, celebrating around a bonfire and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. He is remembered as a good friend who had an amazing sense of humor that always welcomed all who wanted to visit.

Survivors include his sister, Kathleen Fode; former wife, Patricia Hanna and their three children, Kim (Kent) Kronberg, David (Diane) Hanna and Kelly (Paul) Buss, including many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceeding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Michelle Hanna; three siblings, Ted Hanna, Joan Montgomery and Bruce Hanna.
