Freddie was proceeded in death by his mother Carrie Mae Shines, Brothers Bednigo Shines, Willie Brown, Sister Bobbie Devers, and Daughter Cassandra Smith. He is survived by wife of 34 years Paula Travis, Daughters Nikita and Hydeia Travis, JeTaun Thompson, Madeline Strachan, Sons Corey Travis, Freddie L. Travis II (Ebony), Sisters Sandra Grice, Ann Shines, and Bonnie Fourte, Brothers Sellie B. Shines (Sandra) and David Brown (Brenda), 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Freddie Lee Travis Sr. was born August 30, 1945 in Chicago, IL to the late Omega Travis and Carrie Mae Shines. Freddie Lee departed this life on July 29, 2015 in the comfort of his own home. He moved from Chicago to Durant, MS where he later graduated from high school. Being a very athletic and gifted individual, he earned many trophies for basketball and football during his high school years. After graduating, his mother signed him up to enter the Air Force where he served as a firefighter for Offutt Air Force Base until he was honorably discharged in 1967. Freddie worked for various companies in Omaha. The lengthiest job in particular was with Vickers Incorporated, where he worked for over 31 years until the plant closed. He then became employed for Metro Community College where he retired in 2008. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 30 and also American Legion Post 001 until he passed away battling a long hard fight with Lung Cancer. Freddie, who was also known as “Mr. Travis” or “Sonny”, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He raised his children to always put GOD first into everything you say, do, and receive. In his spare time he would find joy in playing with his grandchildren or you may even catch him fishing or playing the slots at Ameristar Casino. He will be remembered for his prideful smile and his caring, devoting heart.
