Frances L. Brown

June 27, 1927 — October 10, 2008

Brown, Frances L., age 81 years of Waterloo/Omaha, went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2008. She was the daughter of Edward and Nellie Nice. Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William F. Brown. Survived by her brother Larry Nice of Omaha, sister-in-law, Joyce Nice of Wahoo; daughters Jere Porisch of Minnesota, Linda Brown of Waterloo, Frannie Segner of Tonka Bay, MN; grandsons in the Minneapolis area Christopher Porisch and his wife Doreen, Chad Porisch, Jack Segner and his wife Ashley, Jammie Segner, Justin Segner; great grandson Trevor Porisch and great granddaughter Samantha Porisch and many nieces and nephews. Frances loved visiting family and friends; writing cards and letters and sending packages; and dropping off flowers or gifts to those in hospitals or nursing homes. She loved leading, teaching and passing on whatever she learned. In 2006, Frances was honored for 50 years of community service by the Nebraska Association for Family & Community Education. She served as president and as an officer on boards of various groups including garden clubs, church groups and community service groups and was involved in leadership in the University of Nebraska Extension Clubs for Douglas/Sarpy Counties and the Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs. She often said the invocation and lead in hymn singing at events. As a Master Gardener she appeared on the Backyard Farmer television program. During the 1980’s her home gardens were part of the Omaha area garden tours and she served as a flower show judge for many years. Frances enjoyed public speaking and was a member of Toastmasters International achieving various certifications and winning many awards. She was a parliamentarian and loved presiding over meetings especially student congress sessions. While living in Columbus, she was a girl scout leader and camp director and loved building into her daughter’s and other young women’s lives. When the family lived in Edina, MN, she taught Christian education classes, swimming lessons and served as a church deaconess. Frances was a graduate of North High School, attended UNO and Harper College in Palatine, IL studying early child development. Frances and her husband were lifelong members of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church. She wanted to be known and remembered as someone who “lived her life for Christ”. Visitation: Thursday, 4-7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:00 PM, all at Braman Mortuary (72 St. Chapel) Celebration of Frances’ Life: Friday, October 17, 2008, 11:00 AM at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church.
