Evert De Vries of Omaha, Nebraska, Age 98, died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at home. A visitation and memorial service will be at 10 AM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Braman Mortuary, 6505 S. 144th St., Omaha, NE 68137. A funeral will be held at 1 PM Friday, January 16, 2015 at Grandview Reformed Church, 27991 US 281, Armour, SD 57313 with burial following the funeral. Evert was born on May 2, 1916 and raised on a farm near Armour, South Dakota. He was the son of Herman and Nellie (Rus) De Vries. Evert had three sisters, Pearl De Lange, Geneva Veurink and Katherine De Waard. Evert married Wilamy De Waard in 1941. They raised six daughters, Nyla (Adrian) Landegent, Judy (Leonard) Smith, Beverly (Duane) Eckhoff, Lucy (David) Ham, Laurel (Bill) Hargis, and Christy (Bruce) Moss. Their married lives had them farming in Douglas County, South Dakota for 25 years until they moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1966. Evert retired from Waste Management in Omaha at age 69. Evert was sure he was blessed with so many years so God could use him longer. He accepted Jesus in his twenties. He always said "Amy helped him accept Jesus" and remembered the day. He loved to share his faith, was proud of his daughters, and always said he would be ready when God called him Home. His favorite scripture was Psalm 23. He was a blessing to anyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife Wilamy (Amy), his six daughters and their husbands, his sister Pearl, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild, and his many dear friends and extended family. Evert was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Amy wrote this poem for Evert several years ago: I love you Evert and always will Until life is over and my heart is still My love for you will never fail I love you now and always will The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to Grandview Reformed Church or the charity of your choice.
