Eldern J Poss

January 25, 1945 — August 26, 2023

Eldern Joseph Poss (EJ)
(January 25, 1945 - August 26, 2023)

EJ is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Loretta Poss, brother William, sister Verna Mae and six uncles that he was exceptionally close to. EJ leaves behind his wife Anita, sisters Jan Albers (Steve), Donna Pischel (David), Debbie Poss (Keith Anderson), several in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by his cat, Misty Houston.
EJ was born in Sibley, Iowa on January 25, 1945 to Elmer and Loretta Poss. He graduated from Sibley High School in 1964. After graduation he married Anita Seivert that same year and off to Omaha they went. EJ was blessed with the opportunity to enjoy many facets of life. Whatever he put his mind to, he seemed to shine. Music was very important in EJ’s life. He played clarinet and saxophone in the high school band and had the opportunity to play in his dad’s band, Men of Melody. He then played in numerous bands before starting his own band, EJ
Poss Orchestra. He continued playing in bands even after he and Anita retired, becoming Winter Texans, playing with Swing Street Big Band. While in Texas, EJ was a member of the motorcycle group CRABs (Conservative Retired Adult Bikers). In the approximately 60 years of the motorcycle trips he and Anita took, they never had an accident. EJ continued his education with Radio Engineering Institute and was proud of his first class FCC A license. He then was hired by NCR Corporation in computer maintenance, followed by being the service manager at
Benchmark Computer Systems, and then founding his own computer sales and service company, Datatronics Inc. After selling Datatronics, he started EJ’s Dynoshop that specialized in high performance race cars. Because of EJ’s experience tuning race cars, he became very active in sports car racing and usually came in first on race day! He was active with SCCA, Cornhusker Corvette Club and Pantera Owners of America. In Texas, EJ quickly put his driving skills to work by joining Zoomers RC Club, racing remote control cars. His car was named Tiger by the Tail, and whenever he won, the song Tiger by the Tail was played. E.J. traveled for work and as a musician with Anita by his side visiting all 50 states except Alaska. They also did a lot of traveling in their Roadtrek aka Anita’s doll house. Family was very important to EJ. He was very fortunate to be included in the lives of his dad and his 6 uncles when they got together. He was exceptionally close to his uncles, and as a result, he picked up their good habits and not so good habits. In addition to his uncles were his three sisters. Jan, who he grew up with, sharing many childhood memories, and Donna and Debbie, who laughed at every joke he told, which encouraged EJ to tell even more. Out of all his blessings in life, EJ had one true love, and that was his wife, Anita. You could never say EJ without saying Anita. Although Anita was his first true love, his many cats through the years were definitely his second love.
