Elaine M. Kaspar

9/21/1926 - 10/18/2024

Elaine M. Kaspar was born in 1946, to Clara and Charles Kaspar. She was born and raised on a
farm in Prague Ne. Elaine grew up as the second oldest of 6 sisters and 1 brother. With such a
big family and being one of the older siblings Elaine learned the value of hard work at a young
age. She not only helped out with farm work but also helped with the cooking, sewing and
taking care of the younger siblings. Elaine always kept a special place in her heart for her
siblings even as family members got older, married and moved away with families of their own.
It was Elaine’s love for polka music that led her to meet and marry Allen Kaspar also of
Prague. They were married on May 11th 1948, and moved to Allen’s family farm. They started a
family in 1949, giving birth to twins (Richard and Michael), born prematurely with only Michael
surviving. A few years later they added another son Ken to the family followed by a daughter
Karen, and 2 more sons Ron and Tim. (losing a daughter, Marsha in between). With their family
of 5 children, Allen took a job in Omaha, while continuing to farm in Prague. In 1963, they
moved the family to the house in Millard that they lived in for the next 70 plus years.
Elaine continued to work hard while living in Millard while raising her family. Elaine took
pride in her caring for her house and cooking for her family. The cooking skills she learned in
childhood became a passion for her. Her love of Polka music also stayed with her and she
would often spend hours in the kitchen listening to Polka music while baking homemade
kolaches, cream puffs, crescent rolls, and peach dumplings. Other family favorite foods
included her pancakes, goulash, potato dumplings and her gravy at Thanksgiving.
When all the kids were of school age she started working at Central Middle School,
eventually becoming kitchen manager. She continued to work there for many years until retiring
in 1988. While working and raising five kids Elaine still managed to keep her house spotless.
When making her bed she was known for her tight sheet corners. In her spare time she
maintained several beautiful flower gardens.

Elaine loved and supported her family, always putting their needs before hers. As they
grew, married and had children of their own Elaine embraced being a grandma to her 7
grandchildren and 4 great grandkids with that same love and support. The grandkids could
always count on grandma to have dilly bars in the freezer, pop in the refrigerator ,and the candy
jar full. Grandma baked cupcakes and gave presents for EVERY holiday. (McDonalds money
was a favorite) Sleepovers at grandma’s were the best, staying up late watching movies and
waking up to a breakfast of grandma’s pancakes.

No matter how busy she was Elaine always made time to keep up in her appearance.
Even in her later years she worried about how her hair looked. For her 70th wedding
anniversary she made an extra effort to paint her nails and dab a little perfume on her wrist.
Elaine's greatest joy came when the family of 20 plus members gathered around the
table for a meal. She rarely sat down to eat with the family, but stood in the kitchen watching
everyone enjoy the food she had prepared. In later years the meals became simpler consisting
of hotdogs and frozen pizza, but she still managed to have at least 3 homemade desserts.
As her family reflects back on Elaine, the thing that will be missed most is her ability to
bring us together, the food helped, but it was the love that was shared, that always brought us
home.

Preceded in death by husband Allen, daughter, Karen Kaspar; infant son, Richard, infant daughter, Marsha; five sisters and one brother. Survived by sons, Mike Kaspar, Ken Kaspar (Linda), Ron Kaspar (Janet), Tim Kaspar (Melissa); seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; other family members and friends.
