BOISEN, Elaine M. 3/12/1924 – 9/29/2019 Elaine was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Her parents, Carl & Lydia raised a family of ten children.Elaine was one of the younger children; she had five sisters, but two of them passed away young. She also had four brothers. Her father was a painter and a wallpaper hanger. He worked hard and long hours during the depression, but their house was beautiful because of his talents. Elaine’s mother was a great housewife and mother, taking great care of her big family. Some of Elaine’s favorite memories growing up were playing with dolls with her sister Peggy. They both enjoyed making clothes for their dolls. Being part of a big family meant there way always someone to play with and something to do! When Elaine was older she started working as a photo colorist. She loved it and was able to use her artistic skills adding color to black and white photographs. Elaine would use a stick with a cotton tip to apply oil paint to photographs. Walgreen’s and Dean’s studios were a couple of the places she worked. During the war, Elaine went to work at the Glen L. Martin bomber plant in Omaha. She was a timekeeper there and enjoyed all the people she met. Although she didn’t know it at the time, Elaine’s future husband Jack also worked at the plant! Their mothers were friends. One New Year’s Eve Elaine was home without a date for the evening. She got a phone call from a young man named Jack Boisen; he asked her to go out with him and she accepted! Jack and Elaine married on May 3rd 1947. They had a daughter, Kathy and a son, Danny. Life with Jack was never boring for Elaine. He loved to “collect” things. He would bring home a variety of things from the sale barns. Once he brought home ten guinea pigs! The family lived on an acreage and had a variety of animals that included cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and lambs! The best pet they “adopted” was the baby skunk Elaine found! She named him Elvis, and had him “de-skunked”. He was part of the family for many years. Jack worked for a home builder and actually built all of the homes that he and Elaine lived in over the years. They raised their family in the Benson area and cherished the life they made. Besides caring for all the animals on their acreage, Elaine was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and crocheting. When her kids were babies she made sweaters, hats, booties, and afghans. After many years, Elaine became a grandmother. Kathy and Tom had Kristopher and Kelly. Danny and Patty had Dakota, Colton, and Courtney. Elaine loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She said that she had many favorite memories over the years.
