Her mother had come as a German immigrant to America as a child.Amidst hard times in the Great Depression, she and her brother Herman, were sent to live on the Joe Amos farm near DuBois, NE for a couple of years until things improved. She attended school in Seneca through the 10th grade, delivered the town newspaper, and visited the principal’s office frequently. During the summer of 1946 she met Charles Eberly, a 19 year old combat veteran of WWII, at a local dance club After a 5 week romance, they were married in July, and proceeded to have 7 children over the next dozen years.Things were very difficult in those years.
