Donna Belle Marie Soukup, was born in 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa. She grew up with 2 brothers, 1 sister and hard-working, loving parents. She graduated from East High School, in 1947. In 1950, Donna graduated from Cosmetology School and began her career as a hair dresser. In that same year, she married the love of her life.Kenneth William Beekley was a marine who fought in World War II and 9 days after their wedding, Ken was called to active duty in the Korean Conflict. Donna immediately took on the responsibilities of her new career as well as homemaker. She was always very independent and capable of anything she put her mind to. Donna and Ken longed to become parents and after learning that they were unable to have children, decided to adopt. They opened their hearts and home to 3 children; Kevin, Jeff and Shelly. Her children were her delight. Through the years, Ken's job required a lot of travel and once again, Donna took on the role of wife, mother and homemaker with style. Her house was always immaculate and she seemed to have endless energy. She became an excellent cook, baker and loved to entertain. Her Kolaches, Runzas and Mac'N'Cheese were all the rage. Donna also loved gardening, camping, shopping, a good thrift store bargain, sunbathing, dancing, beer and most of all, her many dogs. In 1993, she lost her husband but was still determined to remain independent, keeping their home, traveling, caring for her grandchildren and volunteering at Immanuel Hospital. As she grew older, she was very honest about having to give up her home, her car and her independence. She faced the fact that her mind was fading with strength, humor and courage. In 2013, she was moved to an assisted living facility in Denver, where her son Jeff and his wife, Lupe, made sure that she got the best of care. After a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, Donna passed away peacefully. Donna met all of life with gusto. She continued to stay strong and gave her all, even to the end.She faced her challenges head on, spoke her mind, loved with all her heart and enjoyed every minute of it. Her favorite phrase was, "Life goes on!"She loved life, she loved God and she put her heart and soul in all she did. Mom, we celebrate your life and legacy.
