Donald Joseph Regan

September 25, 1927 — November 11, 2024

Donald Joseph Regan Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on November 11th, 2024 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Don was born on September 25, 1927 in Waukon, Iowa to Daniel and Kathryn Regan. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1945. At the age of 17, Don proudly enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950 and began his career with Mutual of Omaha in Waterloo, IA. In 1955, he moved to Omaha, NE where he would meet Susan Miller. The two were married for nearly 50 years. Don spent his career at Mutual of Omaha until his retirement in 1983 as a Vice President in the Group Claims Division.

Don and Susan loved to travel. They took multiple camping trips every year with their family as the children grew up. His favorite places to camp were Estes Park, Colorado and the Black Hills in South Dakota. They continued to travel after their kids moved out and would winter for many years in Port Aransas, Texas.

After Susan passed in 2004, Don’s favorite pastime was driving his car. He purchased a bright red Monte Carlo SS when he was 79. He drove that until he was 85 when he purchased a bright red Camaro. He finally had to become practical when he turned 90 and purchased a Malibu with Blindspot detectors and a backup camera.

Don will be remembered by many as an avid model train collector and Iowa Hawkeye fan, but more importantly he will be remembered as a great father, grandfather, and uncle. He had a sharp memory that often surprised people and an ability to tell stories that always seemed to draw ears. His humor and wit will live on through his many stories. He will be missed dearly.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Kathryn Regan; Wife, Susan Mae (Miller) Regan; Sisters, Lavon Cunningham, Lorraine Lyons, Joan Takin, Charlotte O’Malley; and Brother Daniel Regan.

He is a survived by his Children, Don (Kim) Regan, Tami Regan, Tim (Julie) Regan, Pamela Jones; Grandchildren, Lindsey (John) Thorne, Alexa (Bruce) Moor, Danny (Alina) Regan, Dani Christensen, Joey (Kayla) Regan, Ryan (Fiancé Kata) Regan, Jennifer Newkirk, Debbie Jones; his Great-grandchildren, Henry Thorne, Olive Thorne, Isla Moor, and Ivy Regan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
