Dolores (Dee) J. Pettitt, aged 87, passed away on February 20, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. Born on June 17, 1937, in Newburgh New York, Dee was known for her vibrant spirit and deep love for her family, embodying the essence of a spirited Italian grandmother.
Dee was a beloved mother, grandmother (Gigi), and sister. She is survived by her brother Frank (Sonny) Nunziato, sister Rita Nunziato; children Paul Rafe (Lynn), Debra Taber (Keith), Mike Rafe (Denise), Laurie Hicks (Roger), Michele Rafe (Armand), and Trish Quarles (Paul). Along with many grandkids and great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Nunziato and Matilda (Tillie) Neuwirth, husbands Joseph Rafe and Bob Pettitt, siblings Anna Huston and Mary Jannotti, and son Mark Rafe, granddaughter Autumn Rollings, and great grandchildren Jake Canaan, Josh Canaan and Jason Patrick Canaan.
Dee spent her career as a Nurse’s Aide and later as an Assistant to the Optometrist, where she applied her caring nature to help others. Outside of her professional life, she was actively involved in community service through the VFW and American Legion. Her hobbies included spending time with her beloved dog Pogo, enthusiastically playing Wheel of Fortune, going to bingo and being a constant presence at her great-grandchildren's school programs, dance recitals, and sporting events. She cherished the opportunities to travel and visit family, ensuring she was part of their lives no matter the distance.
A church service will be held on March 1 at 11 am at St. Stephen the Martyr, Omaha, NE then a gravesite service on August 9 at 11 am at St. Stephens, Grand Island, NY, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory. Dee's life and legacy will continue to influence and inspire all who knew her.
Dee's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and dedication to family. Her legacy will continue to inspire and influence everyone who knew her.
