Diane Gale Fortenbury, age 64, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on 8/6/18 following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born to Bert and Dale Almquist in Omaha on 12/11/53.She grew up in Bellevue Ne.She attended Bellevue East High School and graduated in 1972.She married John Michael Fortenbury in 1974.They lived in South Omaha.She gave birth to her “one and only” Lori in 1976.She worked in the banking industry for 23 years, moving on to other professions making a difference in the lives of others.She was active in the South Omaha Optimist club, Reunion committee for class of 1972, and GRIN (Golden Retriever Rescue in Ne.).She was known for her contagious smile, quick wit and ease in frequent conversation even with total strangers. She passionately loved elephants. Above all she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her Father Dale Almquist. She is survived by her Mother Bert Latimer of Council Bluffs, Ia.Step Mother Karen Almquist of Omaha, Ne.Daughter Lori (Robert) Pekarek of Blencoe, Ia.Grandchildren; Whitney, Jaden, Brooklyn, and Blake.Great Grandson Braxton.Sisters; Jeaneanne (Alan) Simpson of Bellevue, Ne., Desiree (Bill) Schrader of Alamo, Ca., Julie (David) Almquist-Childers of Portland, Or.
