David Williams,

David Williams Jr. was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 10th, 1966, the son of David Williams Sr. and Barbara Williams. He was the eldest of seven children who were raised in North Omaha. As a young child he started bowling and had his first 300 game when he was only a teenager. David attended Central High School in Omaha, and in 1984 he joined the Marines. He was briefly stationed in San Diego, prior to receiving a medical discharge. David continued to bowl and in 1990, he won $100,000 when he finished second in the “High Rollers” amateur bowling tournament in Las Vegas. In 1992 he joined the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and toured intermittently for the next few years. On April 30th, 1994 David married his wife Sheri in Omaha and they created a blended family. David had four daughters, Sheri had a son, and together they had a daughter and two sons. David had multiple jobs over the years, but most often worked in car dealerships selling both new and used cars. With his outgoing personality and his constant positive outlook on life, he was quite successful as a salesperson. Even though he worked long hours, he always found time to bowl in leagues and local tournaments. In 1997, David was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease in which small groups of inflammatory cells collect in different parts of a person’s body and can lead to organ damage. In David’s case, his lungs were affected making it difficult for him to breath. He had to start using oxygen. This didn’t stop him from bowling though. He would throw the ball and then sit down with his oxygen tank. Despite this, he was still able to dominate on the lanes. Since he was unable to walk long distances, he worked for the last ten years at Student Transportation of America (STA) as a part-time bus driver. David loved being around children, and they loved him too. When his sons were young, he coached their basketball and football teams. When they got older, he volunteered to coach for other youth leagues. He would also teach bowling to both children and adults. After over a year on the transplant list, David received a double-lung transplant on March 29th, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. The surgery changed his life! He was able to breathe without using oxygen and made plans to bowl full-time on the PBA50 tour. As he was driving to the first PBA50 tournament being held in Florida, he was involved in a tragic car accident which took his life on April 11th, 2019. Although he was only 53 years old when he died, he lived a full and happy life. He loved God, his family and bowling in that order. He knew he was given a second chance at life and he wanted to live it to the fullest. “Hatred is a bad thing. I’ve never hated anyone in my life. If I did someone wrong, I wanted to make sure I apologized. I just kind of cleaned up my life in terms of giving God a lot more attention and trying to get a better understanding of what he wants from us in our lives” – David Williams Jr. He was preceded in death by brother Rodney Williams; David is survived by his Wife Sheri Williams; Parents David Sr. & Barbara Williams; Children: Josh Rasmussen, Latrisha Guss & Fiance Thomas, Shawna (Larreele) Becker, Aleisha Becker, Christyal Becker; Desiree, David “Trey”, Jordan Williams; Brothers: Larry, Kenith, Michael Williams; Sisters: Dr. Belinda Johnson (her late husband Deric), Teresa (Alicia) Williams; Grandchildren: Allyssa Rasmussen, Nina Rasmussen, Zaria Pitts, Zatani Guss, Zariyah Guss, La’Naughdtya “Raihe’Lynn’” LaMar, Elyericqua LaMar, Nialaneiah “Nia” Miles, Legend Bell, Sire Bell, Johnaye Miller, Trevanna Becker, Zaryah Becker, Josiah Straughn-Williams, Amarianna Spears and many other relatives and friends.
