DeGROFF, David Carter 11/14/1925 – 10/22/2017 Age 91 years of Omaha David Carter DeGroff was born to Alice Erlougher and Kenneth DeGroff on November 14, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN.His sister, Molly, was born in Blair, NE in 1932. He graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana in 1944.David played the French Horn in the band in his high school and was the school photographer.At age 19, he enrolled in the United States Army to serve in WWII.During the war, he served in the Philippines.After the war, he came home to South Bend, IN and worked in his father’s photography studio for a few years.He then attended Midland college in Fremont, NE where he met his first wife, Wilma Burt.They married on December 24, 1950 and were married for almost 55 years, until her death in April of 2005.He graduated from Midland College in 1952.They moved to Omaha, NE in 1953 and joined St.Paul United Methodist Church, which he attended ever since. Their one child, Marcia Marie was born in 1956.He worked at Lincoln National Life Insurance as a salesman for over 25 years.In the early 1970’s, he became a Certified Life Underwriter. David was always very friendly and could talk to anyone.In December of 1985, his first grandchild was born, Nicholas Phillip.The second grandchild was born in October of 1988, Matthew David, whose middle name was in honor of his Grandfather.David was very proud of that, enough so, that many relatives thought Matt’s first name was David!In May of 1994, the third grandchild, Sarah Michelle was born.Sarah passed away in December of 1994.In April of 1997, the final grandchild, Kaitlyn Elizabeth was born.On August 12, 2006, David married Beverly Hagen, and they were together until his passing. He was preceded in death by mother, Alice Erlougher, father, Kenneth DeGroff, first wife, Wilma, granddaughter, Sarah Michelle Waszak, sister and brother in-law, Molly and John Willett.His stepmother, Hanna Martin, passed away less than 2 months before David.Wilma’s brother, Earl Burt and his wife Diane and also Larry Brandt, another brother-in-law, also preceded him in death.David passed away surrounded by his wife: Beverly, daughter: Marcia, and grandchildren: Nick, Matt, and Katie.
