In 1950 he went to work for the state of Nebraska with the department of scales at the weigh station located in Platsmouth. One of his joys was playing Santa Claus for the Legion's Children's Christmas Party every year. As Santa, he also helped the Salvation Army raise money by being a bell ringer, standing out in the middle of Maple Street in the Benson area so that people could drop off their donations and so he could hand out candy canes to the children. For his 80th birthday, he full filled his life long dream of building a home on his acreage near Murray. There he had the time and the space to grow his vegetable garden and most of all, his super famous tomatoes. Cliff and Betty celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this year.
