Christie L French
December 20, 1959 ~ April 19, 2025
Christie was born to Chester and Virginia Moore at Stormont Vale Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Celeste Vale and more specifically Gerald Vale (her grandfather) would play instrumental roles in her upbringing. She always viewed Gerald as her primary father figure. Christie had her first child in 1978, Cliff Jr., also at Stormont Vale Hospital. A couple of years later she moved to the local area. She bounced around a few metro cities before ultimately settling in Omaha. Christie had her second child Alisha in 1981. Both Junior and Alisha were born to her and Clifford Maddox. Years later she would go on to meet and marry her first husband Kevin Betts. The two of them would have her last child, Sarah, in 1988. In 1994 Christie would marry her forever husband, Stephen French. Although the two of them never had biological children, together they raised and loved many Chihuahuas as if they were. Christie’s working career was comprised mostly of restaurant management where she would ultimately rise to the rank of Taco John’s General Manager. Following a quadruple bypass and subsequent complications in 2006 Christie was forced to retire and go on disability. She spent the later years of her life ensuring that her husband, animals, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were cared for and loved. Everyone that knew her knew she had quite an eclectic love for music (staple favorites included Journey, Luke Bryan and Tupac), and she certainly loved to travel. She even loved Husker football and the Dallas Cowboys. However, her true passion would become the thrill of racing. Together she and Steve developed a love for NASCAR that would cement them as the truest of true fans of the sport. You better believe every Sunday she was going to brag about “Seven Time”, her favorite driver #48 Jimmy Johnson.
Over the course of her life, she endured many battles and what many would consider an insurmountable amount of trauma, but she never allowed that to define her. She was tough as nails. She was rarely afraid to tell you how she felt, and she would admit to not having much of a filter. But, if she loved you, you always knew it. In fact, her greatest gift was the unwavering love and support she gave to her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. We love you mama. Until we meet again, may you rest in peace.
