Cheryl Ruth (Merrill) Ott was born on March 5, 1944 in Lincoln Nebraska, the youngest of four daughters, to Wiston and Amy Merrill. Cheryl grew up on a farm just west of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska.During her elementary school years, thanks to instruction from her older sisters, she skipped two grades and graduated from Milford High School at the age of 16. In 1960, Cheryl enrolled at Nebraska Wesleyan University where she met her husband Charlie, who she married soon after graduating with an Education degree.Cheryl taught school for a few years prior to starting a family in 1968. Cheryl and Charlie lived in Omaha, Millard, Bellevue, Hastings, Hoskins, and Norfolk, Nebraska before moving to their present home in Omaha in 1975. In 1983 Cheryl’s family became members of FaithWestwood Methodist Church.She was active with the Chancel Choir and United Methodist Women.She was active with the ‘See Ya Friday’ luncheon group as well as many other groups throughout the years. Cheryl enjoyed traveling, especially with family members, playing cards, tending to her flowers, gardening, selling plants, and organizing and attending the many lunches she had with friends and family. In 1997 after Charlie’s retirement, they traveled to Lake Havasu, Arizona to spend some time over the winter.They loved it so much that they made it their winter residence.Over the years there Cheryl made numerous close friends and she loved all the social events that went on at condominium complex where they lived. In 1998 Cheryl became a grandmother, a role that she cherished and had long been looking forward to and thoroughly enjoyed the arrival of four more grandchildren. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Joanne Lostroh and brother-in-laws Eugene Melichar and Harold Busboom.She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles Ott; daughter Christine (Brock) Klaus of Grafton, WI; son Charles “Chip” (Cindy) Ott of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Carson and Cambryn Klaus of Grafton, WI and Jared, Wade and Callie Ott of Omaha, NE. Cheryl is also survived by her sisters Helen Busboom and Julia Melichar and brother-in-law Melvin Lostroh as well as many other relatives and friends.
