Cheri Hurst Greene February 17, 1950 – December 26, 2023 Cheri was born in Long Beach, California on February 17, 1950 to Doris Bellamy Hurst (Mother) and Randall Benjamin Hurst (Father) who was a Fighter Pilot for the United States Marine Corp. Upon her father’s completion of his Marine Corp career, the family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida for several years; and finally moving to Atlanta, Georgia where Cheri graduated from Towers High School. Cheri continued her education by pursuing classes and performing as a Half-time majorette for the Georgia Tech University Yellow Jackets. Cheri’s passion for the performing arts led her to establishing Atlanta’s first youth organization for majorettes; as well as, coaching numerous dance teams across the Metro Atlanta Area. Cheri’s passion for working with children and her incredible leadership skills landed her the opportunity to become an Atlanta Regional Director for the Girl Scouts of America organization. She had an ambitious drive for empowering young girls to grow and succeed as future young leaders. Her biggest accomplishment in her Girl Scout Leadership journey was creating the first Girl Scout Olympiad which gave an avenue for girls to compete in various sporting events. Cheri also had an incredible eye for design which led her to pursue her certification in interior design and leading her into a successful career managing multiple large chain furniture stores in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Cheri was an incredibly gifted individual. She was blessed with intelligence, beauty, and grace which helped her capture the title of the “Ms. Tennessee American Woman” beauty pageant. Cheri loved the pageant industry so much she became a multi-state director of multiple national based beauty pageants. She also became a certified national judge and national coach of beauty pageants. Later Cheri pursued another life-long passion of flying and earning her wings as an American Airlines Flight Attendant based out of Manhattan, New York. She had the pleasure of traveling all over the United States and loved interacting with her passengers. After the 9-11-01 tragedy, Cheri moved back to Fort Meyers, Florida to pick back up her successful role of managing a large chain furniture store. Some time later Cheri met Jack Porter and relocated to Omaha, Nebraska where she lived until her passing on December 26, 2022. Cheri is succeeded by her significant other, Jack Porter of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Randa H. Harper of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughter, Ashley G. Couch of Atlanta, Georgia; and her two granddaughters, Brook and Taylor Couch of Atlanta, Georgia. There will be a celebration of Cheri’s life on Monday, January 2nd at 2:00PM at the home of John and Jeanette Porter, 11777 N. 79th Street, Lincoln, NE 68517. There will be a celebration of Cheri’s life for her Atlanta based friends and family scheduled at a later date.
