Charles Bromley Woram passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2025, at Douglas County Health Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 79.
Charlie was born in Mexico City on May 11, 1945, to Charles Bromley Woram and Betty Cover Woram.
Charlie spent most of his life in Connecticut, where he was a star soccer player at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, CT. He later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
After returning home, Charlie was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder at a time when little was understood about this illness. With the support of many wonderful mental health professionals, he persevered and earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Bridgeport. A gifted writer, he wrote novels, essays, and poetry, including his self-published book If It Weren’t for Life: Some People are Born Wise Others Are Born Otherwise
Charlie’s wit, intelligence, generosity, and charm made the world a better place. He had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went.
Thirty years ago, he found a little piece of paradise in Persia, Iowa. Those were the best years of his life. He cherished his family, friends, and neighbors and had a special love for animals. His beloved dog, Sally, predeceased him by just one week. May they both rest in peace.
Charlie is survived by his sister Teresa Oravetz and brother Christopher Woram. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony Woram and Anthony’s son Rodney. His nieces and nephews brought Charlie great joy. Stuart Oravetz (Elizabeth Guillory) and their sons Samuel and Jonathan; Emily Sorkness (Bret Sorkness) and their daughter Viola; and Anthony’s daughters Sunny and April Woram and Sunny’s daughter Imani. We all share in celebrating his life and mourning his passing.
We all deeply appreciate the help and care he received from hundreds of medical professionals, friends, family members, and neighbors who went above and beyond to nurture and help Charlie when he needed it. A special note of appreciation to Cindy Long for her help, love, and unwavering support.
A Memorial Service will be held in May. Details to follow.
