Charles William Rydstrom

Charles William “Bill” Rydstrom was born in Buena Vista County, IA on December 28, 1932 to Lester and Bessie Rydstrom. Bill grew up in Marathon, IA and graduated from Marathon High School in 1950.

After graduation Bill moved to Omaha and met Doris Vogt of Arlington, NE. Bill and Doris were married on October 18, 1956 at First Lutheran Church in Omaha. In 1957 they gave birth to daughter Elizabeth. After living in Tennessee and South Carolina for a few years, Bill and Doris returned to Omaha where they gave birth to son Charles in 1970. They resided in Omaha for the rest of their lives.

In 1973, Bill and Doris became Charter Members of Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Omaha. Both remained active members of Divine Shepherd throughout their lives.

Bill spent the majority of his professional career working in the transportation industry, eventually retiring from Henningsen Foods in the late 1990’s.

On most weekend afternoons during his adult life Bill could be found at the golf course, Rosenblatt Stadium to catch a Royals game or Memorial Stadium in Lincoln cheering on the Huskers.

In his later years, Bill remained active with family, church activities and card clubs with his friends. At the end of the day you could always find Bill watching baseball in his office on the smallest TV in the house.

Bill is survived by son Charles, grandson Cole Petersen, son-in-law Gregg Petersen all of Omaha, sister Patricia Redetzke of Great Bend, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was proceeded in death by his parents Lester and Bessie, wife Doris, daughter Elizabeth, sister Marge (Gary) Hopkins, brothers Joe Rydstrom and Dick Rydstrom.
