Applegate, Carol Ann
5/30/1938 - 12/11/2022
Carol Ann Applegate born May 30th, 1938 in Nebraska City, NE to Athel Gardner and Ophello (Jennie) Huey. She was one of thirteen siblings.
Carol met Steve, the love of her life, at a lounge where Carol was bartending. Despite thinking he had the filthiest mouth ever; she fell in love with him. They were married on March 1st, 1965, and the impending blizzard was not going to stop them.
Family was important to Carol, and she loved having family and friends over for visits. Carol loved to bake and teaching her kids and grandkids her recipes. Kids, grandkids, and great grandkids always asked for her homemade Beef and Noodles or her divinity candy at Christmas. Attending annual family reunions was important to Carol. Being able to see her siblings and extended family brought her joy.
She made many friendships throughout the years while bowling and square and round dancing. Through the two round dance clubs they started, Apple-Go-Rounds and Lil’ Dippers, they shared their love of dancing by giving lessons for many years. Carol was also a beautiful seamstress and made all the square dance outfits that her, Steve, and kids wore. She was even known for making much of the girls’ clothing and Christmas Eve outfits, which they LOVED. A special moment in her sewing days was when she made the outfits for not just her and Steve, but the kids and grandkids when they renewed their vows on their 25th wedding anniversary.
Carol was a loving, caring, and quiet woman, unless she was watching her football which then you had better watch out. Whether it was rooting for the Huskers or the Kansas City Chiefs, nobody dared to come between her and her football.
Carol was a hard worker whether it was working at the Meter Plant in Nebraska City or when she was bartending/waitressing at various locations including Kenny’s Steakhouse, JB Big Boy, Baker’s restaurant, Woolworth when it was inside Crossroads Mall, Wheatfields and Ameristar Sports Bar before retiring. Serving others was in Carol’s blood and you could not get her to sit down if something needed to be done, unless the Huskers were on TV.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband Steve, daughter Annette Buchheit and grandson Justin Buchheit. She is survived by her Brother: Jack (Fran) Gardner.
