C. Eugene “Gene” Bridgewater, 83, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on August 10, 2021. Gene is survived by his two children, daughter Wendy Bridgewater of Leesburg, Virginia and son Chad Bridgewater and his wife Jennifer Bridgewater of Hillsboro, Oregon: three grandchildren, Jared, Austen and Elizabeth Bridgewater, and his sister Donna Baughman and her husband Dan Baughman of Perris, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Clyde Bridgewater in 1997. Gene attended Westside High School in Omaha, where he played on the basketball and track teams. He entered the Army in 1957 and worked as an Electrical Lineman until his transfer to the Army Reserves in 1959. He received an honorable discharge in 1963. After leaving the Army, he worked as an electrical lineman and self-taught general contractor and finished carpenter for 45+ years, his passion was in making fine pieces of furniture and siding houses. He loved sports, especially football, where his favorite team was the Nebraska Cornhuskers and was an avid Chess Master, beating everyone he played. He enjoyed traveling and would take his family on cross-country travel adventures every summer. Gene was always kind, generous and had a wicked sense of humor. A special thank you to the people at the Florence Home in Omaha for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Braman Mortuary & Cremation Services for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.Funeral services for Gene are currently being prepared to take place in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia with full honors and once scheduled will be provided
