Reeves, Betty A. 12/30/1930 – 6/28/2021 Betty was born in St. Edward, Nebraska and was raised on the farm near the Kearney/Gibbon area. She only went to school through the 7th grade, as she had to help raise her younger siblings. Betty married Melvin Reeves in August of 1948. They had 3 sons: Roger, Randy and Ryan. She loved to tell the story of how she had hoped and prayed for Ryan to be a girl. Instead, she was later blessed with five granddaughters and five great-granddaughters, outnumbering her two grandsons and one great-grandson. Betty set the example of what a good wife, mother and grandmother should be. She always did her best to be patient with her children, as patient as one can be when raising three wild boys. She loved to camp and fish, but most of all she loved her sewing and crafts. She would spend hours crocheting blankets, working on needle point and sewing countless projects. Betty enjoyed sharing her passion for crafts with her family which included traveling to her sisters’ houses to work on quilting. She also passed her talents down to her granddaughters and would often gift her family with crocheted towels to hang on the stove or beautiful baby blankets and quilts. As for her life with Mel, she set a shining example of unconditional love, essential to seeing a marriage through good times and bad. They were happily married for 64 years, and always greeted each other with terms of endearment, such as fart blossom. They rarely missed church at Grace United Methodist Church followed by lunch at Joe Tess with their fellow parishioners. Betty’s faith was as strong as her love for her family. She provided for them by working at Wilsey Cap and Gown and running a housecleaning service. The job that she was most passionate about, however, was taking care of children, including looking after Lacey and Becca at a young age. They spent many days dancing to Elvis in the living room and taking trips with Grandma’s dear friend Millie to the McDonald’s in Bellevue to ride the merry-go-round. Betty loved to travel to Kearney to visit Tausha and Annette or have them come spend a weekend at the Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club. She also played an instrumental role in raising Andrew, Jori and Kyle as the main caregiver when Ryan and Lisa worked. The kids loved spending time with their grandma at the club, having tea parties and baking yummy treats. She never missed a ball game, dance recital or special event. She was so proud of her grandkids and continuously reminded them that they are “smart cookies” Just when she thought her work was done, she became a Great Grandma! She welcomed Emersyn, Justice, Neveah, Rowan, Rylie and Zoey. She never missed an event or birthday party and loved seeing her great grandchildren grow, learn new things and show off their talents. Betty made her presence known and was the life of the party. She was the kind of person you fall in love with instantly and was constantly making new friends. She was very independent, active and thrived doing her exercise class 3 days a week, attending bingo, socializing with her friend group and going on shopping trips. At holiday events and parties, you could often catch her shimmying on the dance floor or stealing a sip of red beer or wine. She was always positive and had a uplifting spirit. We all will miss her deeply and hold her memories dear in our hearts. Survived by sons, Roger (Star), Randy (Rita) & Ryan (Lisa) Reeves; grandchildren, Annette, Tausha, Lacey, Becca, Andrew, Jori & Kyle; great grandchildren, Emersyn, Justice, Nevaeh, Rowan, Rylie, Zoey; many other relatives & friends.
