Stallings, Bette Jean
June 22, 1930 – October 12, 2022

Bette was born in Omaha, Nebraska (during the Great Depression) to Minnie and Willard Talbot. She was the youngest of their 3 daughters. Bette attended and graduated with honors from South High. It was there she met Robert Hansen, her high school sweetheart, who she married in September of 1949. Their first child was born in 1951, the 2nd in 1952… and so it went until 1965 when their 9th child was born. Soon after they moved to Phoenix, AZ. There Bette worked to achieve her real estate license while raising 9 children. A few years later, the family relocated back to Omaha, and Bette became a single parent. She continued her working career outside the home, as an insurance adjuster, even commuting by bus at times. Somehow, she always managed to cook a hot meal each night, and still found time for her hobbies; sewing, and baking delicious pies and cookies. She always kept a tidy home, ensuring the kids kept up with their household chores.

In the early 70’s, Bette joined Parents Without Partners, where she met Frank Stallings, they married in 1973. Bette moved to Atlanta GA with Frank and her youngest 5 children. There, they opened a furniture refinishing business, and later opened a successful country furniture store in Stone Mountain GA, where Bette also sold her homemade crafts and home goods. As Omaha was her hometown, she inevitably returned with her youngest children after a second divorce. Bette continued working as an insurance adjuster for Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and later First Data Resources. Bette retired in the late 80’s and found more time to enjoy her hobbies. She sewed clothes for grandkids and great grandkids. She was an active member at Christ Community Church and a member of the choir. She also spent a few years in Arizona and decided to try her hand at painting, taking classes at the Community College. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society for many years and enjoyed hosting meetings and being active in the community. Bette lived alone, until Alzheimer’s robbed her of her memories and her independence. She resided at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa from 2018 until she passed away on October 12, 2022. She was surrounded by loved ones and passed peacefully into God’s loving arms.

Bette is survived by her sister; Lois “Tiny” Nauslar, 3 daughters; Linda Cook, Jody McEldowney, and Kara Honeysuckle-Mehaffy, 5 sons; Roger Hansen, Duane Hansen, Rusty Hansen, Brian Hansen, and Jeff Hansen, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; Willard and Minnie Talbot, sister; Viola Metsker, son; Doug Hansen, and grandsons; Dillon Michael Honeysuckle and Bradley Hansen
