February 16, 1928 — March 11, 2022

Bernhard L. Herbermann Born 2/16/1928 Passed 3/11/2022, Aged 94 years. “Benno” was born in Muenster, Germany to parents August and Josefa. He was the third oldest of seven brothers and sisters:Haribert, Luger, (Bernhard), Maria, Hans Gunter, Margret, and Dieter. He had a remarkable gift for painting and spent his late teens and twenties restoring wall and ceiling paintings on local cathedrals, churches and even a castle or two! Benno resided in Muenster until moving to the United States. There he met his future wife, Margot, at Omaha’s German American Society in 1959.They wed in 1961 and had two children, Garnet (Brian Jackson) and Steven (Kim Kessler). They achieved sixty years of marriage and have two grandchildren: Michael and Adam. His artistic abilities led to a lifelong career in the commercial arts, from hand lettering signs, screen printing, gold leaf, refinishing and restoring fine furniture. He also enjoyed being a homeowner and all that entails, especially landscaping and gardening. A member of the German American Society since his arrival in 1959, he and Margot spent many evenings at dinner dances and the family-oriented Fests.Beyond his basic membership he was part of “Sangerchor” choir and “Barenbrut” (men’s group). His artistic talents were lent to the Club in the form of many signs, banners and shields and the original Maypole. Many of these pieces adorn the walls of the German American Society and have helped give it it’s authentic feel. Retirement didn’t slow him down much.He and Margot went on trips exploring the U.S. and many parts of Europe as well as some wonderful cruises though the Caribbean and Latin America. When not traveling, he continued to enjoy taking care of his home and yard and of course, painting. His paintings adorn the walls of many friends and family.
