Arthur “Art” Holdorf was born on September 27, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away peacefully
on April 3, 2025. Preceded in death by his wife, Sonja Holdorf. They were married 63 years. Together they had
four children (Kevin, Kurt, Kregg & Keri), thirteen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Art enjoyed his
career at Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years. He also served 8 years in the Navy Reserve and 4 years in the
Army Reserve.
Art loved nature, hunting, fishing and metal detecting since he was young. He also loved watching
horse racing and came up with his own charting system. In his later years, he started creative writing (including
poems & songs) and various forms of art. He initially started creating artwork with sand & glue, then evolved to
acrylics on glass, wood and marble. Later on he created art on Christmas tree ornaments, refrigerator
magnets, hats and finally horseshoes. He also completed a massive project where he created state flower
magnets and sent them to contacts in all 50 states! He kept busy creating in his final years and loved to share
his artwork with others.
Art was the definition of perseverance and was able to adapt to all situations. He always knew plan A
would not work and had backup plans. No matter what ailments or life circumstances were thrown his way, he
always was able to shift and adapt. His family and friends admired him and his stories. He had a story for
everything and some bad jokes too. He will be missed greatly, but we are so thankful he is finally at peace.
