Antonio Zendejas peacefully passed away on June 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 12, 1933 in Omaha, to Antonio and Nico (Rios) Zendejas and grew up in South Omaha. Tony was a proud Veteran who served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955 aboard the USS Philippine Sea, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal; Korean Presidential Unit Citation; China Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; and Korean Service Medal for his service during the Korean War. He had many professions which included being a cook/caterer, truck driver, and roofer; and for over 20 years a cab driver, which brought him the most enjoyment.Tony was truly a genuine people person who loved to visit and talk with you as if he had known you for years. On November 5, 1957 he married Joann Harlan.To this union 7 children were born:Adele, Mario, Edouardo, Angela, Anthony, Teresa and Carmella. On Jan 2, 1987 he married Sharon Dresher Case. Tony’s children, grand-children and great grand-children meant the world to him.More than anything, he loved cooking for his family and was always there to welcome them into his home. He was a great example of true kindness and was generous to anyone in need. He loved being surrounded by his family, and they loved their time spent with him. His 19 grandchildren have fond memories of going to Grandpa’s house for popsicles, pop, his famous “knuckle-sandwiches”, and the many walks they took to the “moon rocks”. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Adele Stabler, Edouardo (Monica) Zendejas, Angela Zendejas, Anthony “JR” Zendejas, Teresa Zendejas, Carmella (Ron) Schroeder; grandchildrenNikki, Carmen, Aliscia, Louis, John, Brooktynn, Meredith, Carlos, Jordan, Sara, Lexi, Ruben, Tony, Cameron, Ashley, Nicholas, Mia and Mara; 22 great-grandchildren; brother Vince Zendejas; sisters Teresa (Pete) Lopez and Hortense (Butch) Harris, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
